Wellington Road project began in 2010 and during about 17 months, the road was completed. This project in order to widen the road from two lanes become four lanes, and expected will help alleviate increasing of traffic flow, which grow in Prince William County and commuter volume to and from the Prince William campus of George Mason University.
This project designed by Whitman, Requardt, and Associates of Fairfax, Va., while Martin & Gass, Inc. of Alexandria Va.They were awarded a $6.1 million construction contract to complete the project. Source of fund come from local, state and federal funds, including from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
Mike Moon, public works and utilities director, for City of Manassas said that Wellington Road designed as a gateway for commuters and they saw that the road need for expansion, he and his crews very excited perform this project, because Wellington Road is a vital roadway for Manassas. He appreciates the diligence and cooperation among Manassas City staff, the Virginia Department of Transportation, consultant of design and general contractor.
Now, folks of Manassas able to enjoy the Wellington Road which have four lanes and now the road open to the public. Manassas Mayor Hal Parrish was proud cutting a ribbon in the inauguration of the road.
